I’d used to walk around listening (clubs are HARD with the loud music though, hence why i do suggest bars or wine tasting rooms more) to see if anyone was talking about something that interested me. Or the latest results of sports (as I love sports). I pretty much traveled the entire planet and know all about it, so I’d chime in on recommendations and also tell them my own experiences. a group of people would be talking about the next place to travel. Oftentimes though, butting in on conversations taking place is probably the best way to get into talking to a group especially if their topic interests you and you can chime in on it.įor example. Tons of people just walking away from me or ignoring me. In my experience, I think winery tasting rooms are somewhat better suited for stuff like this though.Īlso, I bombed hard my first time. There’s tons of resources for knowledge on askscience, todayilearned, or even your own opinion on current events (note, INTERESTING topics, not topics that stir negative emotions like anger and such) that you can use to continue conversations. Comment about their shoes, or hair if they have dreads, etc. Just be loud, funny, interesting, and smile a lot and find some object on that person that you find interesting to start that conversation. You do you, and you’d actually find people actually are a lot more receptive to talking to interesting strangers than you’d think. I quickly became more and more comfortable with who I am other than just making up shit as an excuse to talk to random people but it did help me mentally at first. However that “name change” thing only lasted a very short time. To wear a ton of hats and made me travel the world so that stayed somewhat the same across “personas.” I’d change my name, but my profession did allow me I can talk about anything to anyone, and nowadays, it BUGS me if I don’t get to know the person next to me on an airplane. That thrill of just approaching random people now has become normal. It completely removed the anxiety of approaching anyone, and gave me a rush that became addicting. I’d see it as if I’m not me talking to this person, but someone else. When I was younger and severely introverted, what helped me considerably was to pretend I’m someone else when talking with someone. It’s also about ensuring the person you’re talking with is also interesting. Everyone in there will have the same anxieties as you will. You also have to find the other person engaging and interesting.
